As part of Year 5’s Science Topic on ‘Forces’ we carried out an investigation into buoyancy and upthrust.
The class had two challenges. The first was to make a boat from Plasticine that would float on the water. This took lots of testing and re-designing of initial ideas and as our photograph shows, everyone was successful. The second part of the challenge was to see which boat could hold the most counters before it sunk. All the boats were able to hold counters and we were all surprised by how many some could hold.
We have some very talented designers and engineers in the class. The winning boat held an amazing 45 counters. Well done everyone!
