Sport is really important to us at Shiplake Primary. We employ a dedicated specialist PE teacher to teach PE to most of the school and to run exciting and varied after-school sports activities.
The Sports Grant all primary schools receive from the Government goes towards this cost. The rationale behind this is to ensure the impact of this funding is sustainable, allowing for all teachers to work alongside a Sports Specialist. This promotes high quality provision, skills and knowledge to continue through future years. We believe in the tremendous opportunities sport can provide for teamwork and collaboration, as well as being an incredibly important part of a healthy lifestyle.
The children regularly use the local Memorial Field green space for both PE lessons and club activities. We work hard to make sure all our indoor equipment and resources are of a high standard. Shiplake CE School recently attained the Silver Sainsbury’s School Sport Award, demonstrating our schools commitment to excellent PE teaching and learning. We endeavour to offer a wide and varied range of sports’ clubs that give children the opportunity to train together, improve their knowledge of sports and playing competitively against other local schools. We have children also taking a key role in the leadership of sport through our Sports Ambassador Programme. Here, Ambassadors work with the Sports Leader as well as other children to develop sports further across the schools, ensuring children have a valued say in what happens at our school.
