OFSTED and SIAMS Inspections - December 2016

Message from Mrs Sarah Blomfield - Chair of Governors

OFSTED and SIAMS Inspections – December 2016

I am delighted to report that OFSTED has judged our school to be `Good`.  The letter has outlined many positive developments and improvements since the previous inspection in 2011.

In particular, OFSTED commented on the strength and depth of our Head and leadership team, the high academic standards the school achieves and the good support given to pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities. The school meets its statutory obligations regarding the safeguarding of pupils and attendance levels.

OFSTED identifies some development areas.  The report acknowledges that each of the areas highlighted has been identified by the school. This is in the annual School Development Plan which was agreed and put before the Governing Body in September 2016. Each development point is being addressed and progress tracked and monitored.  It is gratifying that both the school`s self-evaluation and its judgement of the planned areas for development were accurate. This is testament not only to the strength of the leadership team in knowing the school so well, but also to the quality of strategic thinking and  planning  of the necessary improvements in order to ensure the school keeps developing and moving forward.

The school is now well placed to continue its work into 2017 following two highly successful OFSTED and SIAMS inspections.

To be judged `Outstanding` by SIAMS and `Good` by OFSTED  within the same week is an impressive achievement and I would like to congratulate all staff and children for all their hard work during that time.  I am sure you will agree that the school continued as usual, including performing six fantastic Christmas plays for us all to enjoy – well done and thank you to everyone.

Our thanks also go to everyone who responded to the online questionnaire, in order for the inspector to build a wider picture of how the school is perceived by different stakeholders.

The Governors and Leadership team will continue to work closely together to ensure the development points remain a priority and we will regularly update you through our Parent Meetings which take place every half term.

Finally, on behalf of the Governors, I would like to extend our thanks to Mrs Page-Howie for her leadership and professionalism during the inspection process and to commend her and all the staff on the results.

From everyone at Shiplake Primary School, I`d like to wish you a Happy New Year and we look forward to working with you all in 2017.
